a one-to-one wearable performance
A MIO is a unique, soft, and semi-transparent organism, half machine and half animal, specifically designed to form a close bond with a single person. Its defining feature is a rhythmic breathing system that activates only in that person’s presence: it responds exclusively to their breath. A MIO can live for a maximum of four hours. During this time, it comfortably attaches to the wearer’s arm and accompanies them throughout the day. After this period, its cycle ends and it stops breathing.
More about the performance:
The participant reads a conection agreement, which explains how the synchronization with a MIO will take place. They are asked to sign it if they agree.
“I have understood that a connection, if it comes into being, cannot be undone without MIO dying. I promise to carry him with me — on my arm — to go through the day with him, to give him closeness when he needs it, and distance when he seeks it.”
Then, the participant breathes into a highly sensitive breath sensor. A program analyzes the breathing. If there is a match with a MIO, the participant can observe how their MIO begins to breathe. Once it is ready to be placed on the arm, participants receive backpacks and can take their MIO with them.
