a collective performance about care and holding
Somewhere in the south of Chile, creatures grow that are half machine, half vegetable. They are alive, breathing and born from the earth. A group of participants is responsible for being their first contact before they are exported to Germany. The creature is ready to be born, and its first minutes out of the soil are the most important ones. This is when the connection is formed. Warmth and touch become its first knowledge of the world, like the first taste of life. The participants take on the role of holders and executioners forming part in its care and extraction.
a one-to-one wearable performance
A MIO is a unique, soft, and semi-transparent organism, half machine and half animal, specifically designed to form a close bond with one person. Its defining feature is a rhythmic breathing system that activates only in the presence of that person: it responds exclusively to the breath of that person. The life cycle of MIO lasts exactly four hours. During this time, it comfortably attaches to the person’s arm and accompanies them throughout their day. After the four hours have passed, its cycle ends and it stops breathing.
